Our Opportunities

There are exciting opportunities waiting for nurses who wish to make a difference to patients, deliver high quality care, want to be listened to and are empowered to utilise their expertise and skills.

Working here is about providing great patient care, but it’s also about you – the qualities and skills you bring to your role and the support, development and job satisfaction you expect in return. It’s about sharing common priorities for improvement and embracing our Trust’s ‘at our best’ principles, to be professional, be involving, be welcoming and to be responsive, which informs everything we do.

These values motivate us to care with pride and to meet the individual needs of our patients in a compassionate and professional manner. They encourage us to create a positive workplace for our employees, respecting each other as individuals and working together as colleagues to deliver high quality healthcare.

The opportunities are endless for you to make your mark so come and join us and be part of our future.

Training & Development

Your training and development

We recognise the surest way to guarantee the best patient care is by giving all staff access to continued education and development.

As part of our commitment to be “At Our Best”, staff have the opportunity to take part in “In Your Shoes” sessions. These are face-to-face meetings between patients and staff aim to encourage better care and communication with our patients.

Induction

All our Nurses and Health Care Assistants benefit from our induction programme which covers subjects such as infection control, privacy, dignity, and care of the deteriorating patient. You’ll also be supported to complete a number of e-learning programmes related to clinical care.

Preceptorship

Our well-established twelve-month preceptorship programme provides all the support you need to make the transition from student to accountable practitioner, and develop confidence in your competence as a nurse. The programme covers a wide range of subjects from tissue viability, palliative care, pain management, cannulation to venepuncture. Clinical supervision is included, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on and discuss concerns in a safe environment.

The Programme is open to nurses returning to practice and those joining from overseas can participate in a similar programme.

Rotation Opportunities

We offer an optional18 month rotation programme for newly qualified Registered Nurses (adults). This incorporates three six month placements (subject to availability) and provides the opportunity to experience different clinical areas.

Continuing professional development

We have strong links with the University of Essex as well as working closely with Anglia Ruskin University to deliver our education programme. Access to further education is offered through our Post Graduate Medical Centre at Colchester General Hospital. Personal development and study is also actively encouraged. There are further study opportunities for masters and degree- level.
