Once the Roman capital of Britain, Colchester is now the acknowledged cultural capital of Essex with its bustling Arts Centre, the acclaimed visual arts organisation Firstsite and the Mercury Theatre.

The thriving town is a unique blend of ancient and modern with its castle and museums, alongside a great selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and multi-million pound sports and leisure complex.

Colchester is the home of the British Army’s 16 Air Assault Brigade. It is the Army’s rapid response airborne formation and is the only operational brigade in the British Army capable of delivering air manoeuvre, air assault and airborne operations.
